If you are injured at work and are not able to work, then Illinois law requires payment of temporary total disability (TTD) benefits.
- Eligibility: TTD benefits are provided to workers who are temporarily unable to perform their job duties due to a work-related injury or illness but are expected to recover and return to work.
- Benefit Amount: Injured workers receive two-thirds (66 2/3%) of their average weekly wage, subject to minimum and maximum limits set by the state, during the period of disability.
- Duration: TTD benefits are paid until the worker is either able to return to work or reaches maximum medical improvement (MMI), meaning their condition has stabilized and is unlikely to improve further with treatment.
- Waiting Period: TTD benefits begin after a 3-day waiting period, but if the disability continues for 14 days or longer, the worker is entitled to compensation for those initial 3 days.
